Meet Dr. Maxine C. Goring

Learn About Maxine C. Goring, Ph.d.

Dr. Maxine Goring is the is the Founder and Executive Director of Young Leaders' Academy, Inc. (YLA) as well as the Founder and Executive Director of Empowered to End Domestic Violence, Inc. (EEDV). YLA is an elite STEM Pre-school for marginalized children between the ages of 2 and 6. It is located in the New Brighton Section of Staten Island and also houses an out-of-school time academic enrichment program serving children between the ages of 6 and 10. YLA is guided by the belief that the only thing that prevents children from poorer families from achieving academic success is the lack of foundational services. We feel that if we introduce marginalized children to the concepts of science, technology, engineering, and math early and often, they too can achieve academic success. Her other non-profit venture, EEDV is a completely free domestic violence awareness and service provider that operates with the sole purpose of providing services for those impacted by domestic violence. Through EEDV, Dr. Goring provides informative workshops and outreach through churches, domestic violence, and family shelters as well as partner organizations. She works primarily in conjunction with Bedford Central Presbyterian Church’s Health Ministry where the bulk of the workshops are conducted.

Dr. Goring grew up in Brooklyn, but she now resides in Staten Island with her daughter and grandchildren. She has backgrounds in computer science, business technology and psychology. She has worked as a Computer Systems Analyst for PriceWaterhouseCoopers, LLC, the United Negro College Fund, the Brooklyn Hospital Center and Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. After realizing that the corporate world did not allow her the flexibility to impact true change, she started her own business and computer consulting firm as well as two not-for-profit organizations. In 2008, she earned a Ph.D. in General Psychology which she utilizes to coach survivors of domestic violence through her not-for-profit. She is the proud earner of five degrees—two in Computer Science and three in Psychology. In fact, she is in pursuit of a sixth degree in Business Management. She is a dedicated lifelong learner who truly believes in utilizing education as the ultimate tool for life-long success. Moreover, like Nelson Mandela, she believes that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" and is guided by his principles in all her endeavors.
